Meet our Animals!

Who Can Participate

For 6-12 month olds

What Happens

In this study, babies will watch a series of animated animals. At the beginning of each trial they will first be shown a spinning star and then an animated animal. After some time, the animation may change. This will happen over a few trials as we observe how your child reacts to these changes.

What We're Studying

We are interested in whether babies react differently to different types of surprises. Previous studies typically only study the difference between two events, i.e. whether infants look longer at A vs B. Here, we are trying a new experimental design which will help us understand whether infants' attention is "graded", i.e. whether infants' attention in response to surprise is a "yes vs. no" process (i.e. they are either surprised or not surprised), or whether how long infants look at stimuli relates to how surprised they were (i.e. there is a proportional increase in attention).

Duration

15 minutes

Compensation

Within about a week of completing the study, you will receive a $5 amazon.com gift code by email once we verify your consent video and that your child is in the correct age range. To be valid, consent videos need to show the parent of the child who is participating. Only one gift card per child is available.
