What do you think of robots?

For 6- to 9-year-olds in the United States.

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you. Children will be introduced to four different robots and told some short stories about the robots. Then children will be asked to give their opinions about the robots and the short stories that involved them.

Children consider many characteristics to make sense of their social world, one being others' minds. In this study, we will explore how children understand the minds of others and how it influences their opinion about moral actions, especially in the context of emerging technologies such as social robots. Understanding children’s intuitions about the minds of others in connection to morality can shed light on the origins and development of moral thought and its consequences for various kinds of entities (e.g., humans, robots, animals, etc.).
