Understanding Helping Behaviors

Understanding Helping Behaviors

SEAL Lab (Social Evaluation and Attribution Lab) (University of Minnesota Twin Cities)

Who Can Participate

For 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds

What Happens

This study will take place on a video call, live with a researcher! Clicking on the “Participate Now!” button will send you to an online calendar where you can select a date and time that works for you.

Children will then answer two questions like "Who is nicer or meaner?" and "is it ok or not ok that she gave her the box?".

What We're Studying

We know that young children prefer helpful people over those who hinder another persons goals. We know less about how children think of people who do nothing when someone needs help. Understanding how children think of those who do nothing is important because it allows us to better understand what children think "should be done" when someone needs help. It also helps us understand why children prefer helpers over harmful others.
